Reinaldo C. Quiñones López – Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, 2010

School:
José A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts
Major:  Culinary Management
Program Type:  Semester Exchange

"I would like to begin by stating that going on a student exchange program to Peru was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. When I started at the Universidad Del Este in the Culinary Management program, I never imagined that I would participate in an international exchange program. Being in a foreign country for a full semester made me grow a lot both as a person and professionally.

The most important reason why I decided to take advantage of this experience is that I felt it was necessary because for my career in culinary arts, the more I know about other cultures, the more professional opportunities I will have.

When you evaluate Peru from a culinary perspective, you will discover that it is an excellent place to visit, since the country is very well known worldwide for its delicious national dishes.  The cuisine in  Peru is a product of the fact that the country is an area with some of the greatest biodiversity in the world, with three completely different regions: the coast, the mountains and the jungle.

I believed that going to study at an international destination would allow me to see beyond the boundaries of my country, understand life from another perspective and learn to trust myself, which would make me more independent. I think that I reached all of these goals and more.  Thanks to this opportunity, I have friends in different parts of the world and a more outgoing personality.  The experience also helped to redefine my personal goals, since I now wish to pursue graduate studies at a foreign university and settle in that location."
