Universidad del Este (UNE) is a private non-profit institution of higher education and the youngest institution in the Ana G. Méndez University System (AGMUS). UNE was founded in 1949 as Puerto Rico Junior College and was the first insitution on the island to offer Associate Degree Programs.
Between 1990 and 1991, the institution extensively revised its mission in an effort to respond more effectively to the challenges and needs of the community. This included three significant changes: a new name, higher level academic programs (Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees), and the relocation of the main campus to a new geographic market (Carolina, PR).
The principles that guide this educational institution are: knowledge, justice, honor and freedom.
With the main campus located in Carolina, the institution’s primary market encompasses Puerto Rico’s northeast region. The student body is largely made up of young students from various socioeconomic backgrounds, with most coming from the public school system.
UNE also serves the educational and training needs of non-traditional students, adults, and workers who are looking to further their professional and personal development.
