Between 1990 and 1991, the institution extensively revised its mission in an effort to respond more effectively to the challenges and needs of the community. This included three significant changes: a new name, higher level academic programs (Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees), and the relocation of the main campus to a new geographic market (Carolina).
The principles that guide this educational institution are: knowledge, justice, honor and freedom.
With the main campus located in Carolina, the institution’s primary market encompasses Puerto Rico’s northeast region. The student body is comprised of young students from various socio-economic backgrounds, with most coming from the public school system. UNE also serves the educational and training needs of non-traditional students, adults, and workers who are looking to further professionally and personally.
