Associate's Degree in Nursing

This program prepares nurses to hold entry-level nursing positions, providing direct care to patients at different levels of complexity and in different stages of growth and development. The program’s duration is two years and one summer. Graduates are prepared to take the validation exam in order to practice nursing in PR. The program is accredited by the PR Higher Education Council and the National League for Nursing. Offered at the Cupey Campus and the Aguadilla University Center.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program prepares students to directly care for patients, family, and the community in various stages of growth and development, and at various levels of complexity. In order to develop the degree’s competencies, a number of carefully selected clinical scenarios are used, as well as community experiences. The duration is four years and is accredited by the PR Higher Education Council and the National League for Nursing since 1971.

Case Management Certificate

Universidad Metropolitana offers professional nursing graduates the opportunity to obtain their Case Management Certificate. The case management field is rapidly growing, with great potential for development.

Case management seeks to control the high costs of healthcare for accidental and healthcare insurance -- a role that is evolving through Utilization Review.

Department of Respiratory Therapy

Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy

The Department of Respiratory Therapy offers an Associate’s Degree in Science, with a concentration in Respiratory Therapy - a program committed to preparing respiratory care practitioners who treat those with cardio-pulmonary disorders. Through the various clinical areas, the student will apply respiratory care techniques under the supervision of qualified clinical instructors.

In addition to the specialized courses, the curriculum includes courses in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and the liberal arts. The Associate’s degree requires the completion of 78 credits, 31 of which are specialization courses. The Respiratory Therapy courses must be passed with a minimum of a “C” and the student must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.3 on a scale of 4.0. Duration is two years and one summer.

Bachelor’s in Respiratory Therapy

The Respiratory Therapy Department offers a Bachelor’s degree in Science with a concentration in Respiratory Therapy. This program is committed to prepare respiratory care practitioners who treat those with cardio-pulmonary disorders. In the clinical area, the student will apply cardio-respiratory care techniques under the supervision of qualified clinical instructors.

The curriculum also includes courses in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, the liberal arts, and six elective credits. The Bachelor’s degree requires the completion of 127 credits, 41 of which are specialization courses. The Respiratory Therapy courses must be passed with a minimum of a “C” and the student must maintain a grade point average of 2.3 on a scale of 4.0. The curriculum includes three additional components, which include: Neonatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care, Departmental Supervision and Administration, and Practicum.
