fluostar_optima_f   FLUOstar OPTIMA F

“With a powerful and efficient xenon flash lamp the FLUOstar OPTIMA F fluorometer provides full spectrum excitation energy and allows performing measurements in the range from 240 - 740 nm or even up to 900 nm. Unlike halogen lamps found on most other entry level fluorometers, the FLUOstar OPTIMA F provides exceptional UV power for fluorophores that excite below 400 nm, like FURA-2 calcium dyes and Hoechst DNA dyes.”  http://www.bmglabtech.com

NC-3000   NC-3000

The NC 3000 is a fluorescence microscope made by Chemometec (Allerød, Denmark) that allows automated detection and analysis of fluorescence of individual cells. This instrument allows the study of different cellular characteristics and events such as :

  • Measurement of cell cycle phases
  • DNA fragmentation studies
  • Transfection efficiency
  • Mitochondrial potential
  • Cell vitality by thiol reductions
  • Cell count and viability

Water / Micromass Quattro Tandem Quadrupole HPLC Mass Spectrometer System

LC/MS is a technique, which combines the separation capabilities of HPLC, with the detection power of mass spectrometry. Even with the MS instrument , HPLC is used to remove or separate interference from the sample that could impact the ionization process. The ChEMTox lab Micromass Mass spectrometer is coupled to a Water 2695 HPLC system separations module and photodiode array. This system has high sensitivity and enhanced resolution for ion scanning experiments.

Olympus CKX – 41 Inverted Microscope with fluorescence coupled to a digital camera

This system is used in routine applications with cell cultures. The CKX 41 has a fluorescence  illuminator for applications that require staining with fluorochromes. The CKX 41 at the ChEMTox lab is also equipped for phase contrast  observations. (photo from Olympus.com). For more information on this equipment go to www.olympus.com

Modulus Fluorometer/Luminometer

“Modulus is a multifunctional single tube instrument designed to give you the utmost flexibility for measuring fluorescence, luminescence, and absorbance. The Modulus operates as a dedicated fluorometer, a dedicated luminometer, or a combination fluorometer/luminometer. This equipment can be used for: Nucleic Acid quantitation, Protein quantitation, Gene expression, ATP and ROS”. ( Photo from Turner biosystems)

Varian Cary 400 UV-Visible Spectrophotometer

The Cary 400 UV spectrophotometer permits the measurement of absorbance of the compounds studied in the lab; it is also used for nucleic acid quantification.
