"Although service is noted as an important element of faculty work, there is very little information about this in this chapter of the Self-Study. Because it is delineated as one of the three major faculty responsibilities along with teaching/learning and research, more recognition of faculty service is needed." (p.36)

"We recommend that faculty be fully involved in the development of the new Faculty Handbook with the three new contract designations." (p. 36)

"As the university evolves to one with a strong research mission, a five-year strategic plan is required that addresses the recruitment of full-time faculty. The plan needs to address critical factors such as

(1) number of faculty needed;
(2) credentials;
(3) the recruitment of faculty in the three categories now being discussed: those who will focus on teaching, on research, or a combination of both;
(4) workload;
(5) financial impact.

This is a foundational issue in evolving to a teaching and research university, one that must be confronted if the university is to achieve its ambitious vision. This issue of increasing the ratio of full-time to part-time faculty was raised in the June 2002 Middle States accreditation team visit and has not since been addressed" (p. 36)
