Universidad del Turabo (UT) prepares students for advanced careers and the leadership roles they will take on within the global arena. Established in 1972, UT has become a major resource for research and development in Puerto Rico. With academic programs in Engineering, Business Administration, Education, Health Sciences, Sciences and Technology, Social Sciences, and Humanities. Its mission is to enhance knowledge in teaching, and advance research, innovation, and the internationalization of its curriculum and programs. Located in the historic town of Gurabo, 15 miles southeast of San Juan, UT has concentrated its efforts on developing a global, comparative, and cultural perspective in all its academic programs. UT has established important partnerships and alliances, in addition to faculty and student exchange programs with major universities and organizations, with the clear purpose of complying with Ana G. Méndez University System’s objective of internationalization. With the establishment of the Center for Doctoral Studies, UT has taken the University Systems’ initiatives to greater heights and is working with faculty, scholars, and graduate students from the U.S., Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Efforts are underway at UT to increase sources of financial support for local and international students through development of scholarship funds, donations from external funding agencies, and university fundraising initiatives. The Center for Excellence in Advanced Technology (known as CETA by its Spanish acronym) is generating attention from government, industry, and academia, and is well on its way to becoming a force in Puerto Rico’s economic development. CETA concentrates its efforts on preparing highly skilled professionals in technical areas to serve the needs of multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
