Through exchange and internship programs, UT offers students a wide range of exciting opportunities to learn about other societies, culture, and economies. The University is attracting students from abroad that are contributing to its internationalization, through academics and research.
UT is working with Georgia Institute of Technology; Penn State University; Florida International University; Michigan Technological University; University of South Florida; Universidad Nacional Pedro HenrĂquez UreĂ±a, Dominican Republic; and Universidad de Valencia, Spain, to offer internships, research opportunities, and student and faculty exchanges.
International internships in the U.S., Latin America, and Europe have been growing at UT with hundreds of students participating in programs in the areas of Education, Science, Engineering, Business Administration, and Health Sciences. Most recently, UT students have benefited from research, employment, and learning opportunities through internships at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), U.S. Congress, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Sandia National Laboratories, and Boeing Corp.
Exchanges of Visiting Faculty and Researchers
UT Turabo is committed to increasing its faculty exchange and visiting professors program. Its professors have participated in faculty fellowship programs at NASA and other leading institutions, while faculty development programs are underway with Universidad San Pablo-CEU and Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, in Spain. UT is also working with universities in the Dominican Republic to receive visiting professors in the field of engineering.
The campus has welcomed visiting professors from Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Cuba, China, India, Belgium, Netherlands, and Montenegro; these professors are contributing to academic discussions and research in the Schools of Sciences and Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
Conferences and Visits from Foreign Dignitaries
As part of the internationalization program, UT hosts conferences that are generating support from diverse locations in the world. Through its alliance with Haiti and Dominican Republic in the Centro Internacional de Estudios del Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible, UT has sponsored conferences in the Dominican Republic that has attracted visitors from the U.S. and throughout the Caribbean.
The University has coordinated and received visits from foreign dignitaries and ambassadors, including recent visits from the consuls of Chile and Uruguay Other events with an international flair have included the â2006 International Poetry Festivalâ and the âInternational Workshop & Hemispheric Conference on Medical Geology.
Agreements and Alliances, and Networks
UT has extended its international scope through cooperation agreements and establishing alliances on a global scale that are contributing to the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and information. Agreements have been signed with Avaya, Amgen, and Hewlett Packard, to enrich the educational experiences of students and faculty.
In addition, UT has established research and academic alliances with Universidad AndrĂ©s Bello, in Chile; Universidad Sergio Arboleda, in Colombia; Universidad AutĂłnoma de Santo Domingo and Universidad Nacional Pedro HenrĂquez UreĂ±a, in the Dominican Republic; Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, in Spain; and Universidad CatĂłlica del Uruguay. Research projects are also underway with the National Institutes of Health, and National Scientific Foundation.
Agreements for doctoral studies in the field of engineering were reached with Michigan Technological University and Florida International University. Furthermore, UT has entered into an agreement with Universidad San Pablo-CEU and the European Union to expand the resources available through the Virtual Library.
