Internationalization Strategies

The international program at Ana G. Méndez University System is comprised of four areas:

  • International student exchange program.
  • Study abroad program.
  • Faculty exchange program.
  • International cooperation and visitors program.

International Student Exchange Program

The University System recognizes the importance and benefits of welcoming and sponsoring students from every part of the world to its campuses. The increased learning, research, and scholarship opportunities available, as well as the faculty and staff initiatives, Ana G. Méndez University System has successfully recruited exchange students from Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the U.S.

Curriculums have been developed featuring a variety of internationalized content and research; creating majors with an international focus; attracting faculty, scholars, and visiting professors from every corner of the world; and developing programs and policies that encourage faculty to internationalize their courses, Ana G. Méndez is able to provide greater opportunities to exchange students.

Study Abroad Program

Through its study abroad program, Ana G, Méndez University System is providing new opportunities for students to gain international experiences and knowledge. The University System also acknowledges that the possibility of studying abroad can be discouraged by the lack of funds. As a result, Ana G. Méndez is working to meet the goal of substantially increasing the number of undergraduate and graduate students studying overseas, by providing a wide range of scholarships, grants, cooperative agreements with international universities, and other financial arrangements.

Ana G. Méndez is working on expanding for-credit opportunities through internships, summer employment, and study abroad programs in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. By going overseas, students are able to experience up close the countries visited and keep abreast of the international aspects influencing the world economy in which they will work.

Faculty Exchanges Program

Through the faculty exchange program, valuable international alliances are established with global scholars, academics, and leaders. These exchanges contribute to the expansion of knowledge through increased research and development in the institutions. Department heads are also encouraged to include international experiences as part of their faculty’s professional development; while visiting faculty are welcomed in an effort to attract academic expertise and research from all regions of the world to Ana G. Méndez’s campuses.

International Cooperation, Alliances, and Visitors Program

In addition to developing its own programs, Ana G. Méndez University System has established alliances with universities and institutions worldwide, which offer a wide range of educational programs and research opportunities abroad.

In recent years, the University System has entered into cooperative agreements with universities, public and private organizations, and consortia in many countries in Latin American, Caribbean and Europe.

University-sponsored trips also allow students and faculty to obtain many of the skills and knowledge needed as they embark on their careers in a global society. Visits to Spain, Greece, and Italy have provided students with cultural, language, and social opportunities. Other faculty and student trips have included visits to El Salvador , Nicaragua, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, and Panama.
